First Cavalry Division 1st Cavalry Division units have
served the nation from 1855 to the present; building a history rich
in pride with solid ties to the traditions and heritage of the United
States Cavalry. The famed 1st Cavalry Division was baptized by fire and
blood on the western plains in an era of horse-mounted cavalry. Dubbed
the "First Team" by Major General William C. Chase, the division has
always strived not only to be the first, but to also be the best. The
division's roots date back to 1855 when the 2nd Cavalry Regiment was
organized. Redesignated as the 5th Cavalry in 1861, this unit
participated in a number of famous Civil War engagements, including
Bullrun, Antietam, Gettysburg, Wilderness, and Appomattox. For more

Fisher House The Fisher House program recognizes the
special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of
military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally
provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. Because
members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and
must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher
House donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military
and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close
to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness,
disease, or injury. There is at least one Fisher House at every major
military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that
they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment.
Annually, the Fisher House program serves more than 10,000 families.
There is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House operated
by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the foundation uses donations
to reimburse the individual Fisher Houses operated by the Army, Navy,
and Air Force. Lt. Dan Riordan held this cause close to his heart. For
more information or to make a donation please visit:

Patriot Guard Riders The Patriot Guard Riders are made
up of riders from across the nation and have one thing in common besides
motorcycles: an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives
for America's freedom and security. Their main mission is to attend the
funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the
family. Their objectives are to show sincere respect for our fallen
heroes, their families, and their communities, and shield the mourning
family and friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group
of protestors. To learn more about the mission of the Patriot Guard,

Adopt A Platoon The AdoptaPlatoon Soldier Support Effort™
founded in 1998 is a nonprofit 501C-3 organization managed nationwide by
volunteer mothers to ensure that deployed United States Service members
in all branches of the military are not forgotten by providing needed mail
support and to promote patriotism in our schools and communities. To provide
a better deployment quality of life, lift morale, and assist military
families, the AAP created projects that meet the need of military requests,
established special projects for holidays, and assigns individual morale
lifting mail support to service members of all branches of the U.S. military
serving their Nation around the world.
